The New Karma Revero
The new Karma Revero is a plug-in hybrid sedan that comes with a sport-style driving position and is capable of higher performance levels than its plug-in cousin, the Karma GS-6. It has a somewhat limited driving range compared to gasoline-powered sedans but it will seat four people in comfort. There's a large center console that runs the length of the interior, separating passengers on either side. Here are a few details about the coming new Karma Revero that will be available soon at Karma Westfield in Westfield, NJ.
A little about the company behind the Karma Revero
The original plug-in hybrid Karma sedan was made by a company called Fisker Automotive that went bankrupt and was sold to a Chinese auto-parts maker. The resulting corporate entity that came out of the bankruptcy is called Karma Automotive and is based in California. The Karma Revero is being produced in limited numbers and there are only about 440 available as of this writing.
The Revero powertrain
The Revero operates with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that's based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine built by BMW. The engine acts as a generator for a pair of rear-mounted electric motors to create a combined output of 536 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque. The new Revero can attain a top speed of 130 mph and can travel from zero to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. The Rivera will be available with either 21-inch or 22-inch wheels and it gives you the extra traction of all-wheel drive.
Battery capacity and driving range
The battery capacity in the new Karma Revero is HV 28 kWh and the driving range is 65 miles with electricity only and about 360 miles of combined gas/electric travel when weather conditions are ideal. Admittedly, that's quite a bit less than the 412-mile driving range of the average gasoline-powered vehicle. But that's the reality of vehicles that operate with electric motors and a plug-in hybrid does have the benefit of being based on an engine that's powered by gas.
Fuel economy
When operating on gasoline only, the Karma Reero delivers an estimated 22 MPG of combined city and highway fuel efficiency. If you invest in premium gasoline, you might be able to get a higher equivalent MPG number. Keep in mind, however, that EPA estimates for electrified vehicles are based on unproven formulas that can create unrealistic expectations so it's better to work with the gasoline-based estimates.
Interior highlightgs
The cabin of the new Karma Revera has a look and feel that's similar to the original Fisker Karma from more than ten years ago. Fortunately, the latest version has more contemporary features like a digital gauge cluster. The interior comes with the luxury of leather surfaces and upscale trims that include wood or carbon fiber. Underneath the tunnel-like center console that runs through the middle of the car is a battery pack. The console is where cupholders and storage compartments are located for easy access.
Technology
In the center of the Karma Revera's dashboard is a 10.2-inch touch screen that serves as the control center for the infotainment system. The Revero includes Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ and it has the ability to get over-the-air software updates. By using the Karma app, you can lock or unlock the Revera's doors remotely, get access to the charging schedule and turn on the pre-conditioning system.
Safety features
Standard safety features in the new Karma Revero include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. You can reserve a new Karma Revera by placing a pre-order online and submitting a $2500 down payment to demonstrate your good-faith commitment.
